Saints Start WHAC Play With 22-2 Win Over Cleary

HOWELL, Mich. – The Siena Heights men's lacrosse team begin play in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) with a 22-2 win on the road over Cleary on Friday night. The Saints (2-3, 1-0 WHAC) defense allowed just seven shots on goal while the attack registered a season-high 38 on the other end of the field.

Eric Csizmadia tallied a career-high nine points with eight goals and an assist on the evening. Csizmadia led SHU with 14 shots while also causing two turnovers. Garnet Potter, Jake Gallaher, and Joey Keck scored hat tricks in the lopsided win. Matthew Quillen scored two goals, while Mitch Albrant, Ryan Moore, and Logan Hudnut scored one goal. Gallaher was the top playmaker for Siena Heights with four assists in the contest. Vinnie Jean (W, 2-3) played the first quarter in the net for Siena. Jean made one save and held the Cougars scoreless while on the field.

Gallaher got things going with a goal in the opening minute of play. Gallaher scored all three of his goals in the first quarter. Potter scored two of his three in the opening 15-minute period. Csizmadia scored three times, including the game-winning tally with his man-up goal at the 12:36 mark of the first quarter. SHU held a 9-0 lead when the first ended.

Another four goals were added in the second quarter with three scores from Csizmadia and a goal from Potter that pushed the Saint advantage to 13-0 as the teams entered halftime.

The Cougars avoided the shutout with a score in the opening three minutes of the second half. Then, Csizmadia scored three more times while Hudnut tallied his goal before Cleary scored its final tally of the night to end the third frame with a 16-2 lead for Siena Heights.

Keck scored three of the six goals for SHU in the fourth as the Saints began WHAC play with a victory.
