Saints Upset #7 Benedictine (Kan.) For First Win of the Year

ATCHISON, Kan. -- The Siena Heights men's lacrosse team earned its first win of the season with a 15-8 upset over seventh-ranked Benedictine (Kan.) on Wednesday afternoon. The Saints (1-2) scored ten goals in the second quarter to claim the lead and never relinquished it to earn the win.

Jake Gallaher had a massive day for SHU with nine points (five goals and four assists) to lead the way offensively. Eric Csizmadia also scored five goals. He finished the day with two assists for a total of seven points. Fernando Robison led with eight groundballs while also going 15-24 in the faceoff circle. Ethan Wissink led defensively with six caused turnovers while adding two assists to his stat line.

The Ravens earned a man-up goal to take a 1-0 lead in the opening three minutes of the contest. Benedictine (Kan.) scored three more scores pushing the advantage to 4-0 with 2:53 left in the opening quarter. Logan Hudnut put the Saints on the board with a man-up goal off an assist by Csizmadia in the final 90 seconds of the first.

The lead shifted to 5-1 in the opening minute of the second with another man-up goal for the home team. Garnet Potter scored a goal at the 12:06 mark. Gallaher scored back-to-back goals in two minutes; both scores came off assists from Potter. Csizmadia tied the score with a goal off a pass from Gallaher with 6:57 left in the half. Logan Hudnut got into the mix with a goal to give SHU the first lead of the game with 5:29 left in the second. Gallaher completed his hat trick with a man-up goal to put the lead at 7-5 with 4:19. Csizmadia tallied another goal off an assist from Gallaher. Gallaher assisted on the next goal, scored by Devin Plemmons, as the Saints went ahead 9-5. Csizmadia set up Gallaher for his fourth goal of the game--all in this quarter--to bring the SHU score to 10. Benedictine (Kan.) scored to break up the 9-0 run by Siena Heights. Gallaher scored his fifth goal to put the score at 11-6 as the teams entered the locker room at intermission.

Csizmadia scored all three goals of the third quarter. Gallaher, Ethan Wissink, and Plemmons each assisted on the plays. The score sat at 14-6 when the third frame ended. 

Potter finished scoring for the Saints with an unassisted goal at 11:05 of the fourth for the 15-6 lead. The Ravens scored twice but couldn't catch SHU before the clock hit zeros.
