Men’s Lacrosse Falls 14-7 to RV Webber International in Season Opener

WESTFIELD, Ind. – The Siena Heights men's lacrosse team suffered a 14-7 loss to RV Webber International in a neutral sight game to kick off the 2022 season. The Saints (0-1) had scores from four different players in the losing effort, including a hat trick from Garnet Potter.

Potter scored his three goals on seven shots, five of which were on goal. Potter also caused two turnovers in the contest. Jake Gallaher scored twice on eight shots, five on goal. Gallaher scooped up two ground balls and caused a turnover. Matthew Quillen scored once in his Saints debut while registering a ground ball. Logan Hudnut was the fourth member of SHU to score a goal. He added two shots on goal to his stat line. Vinnie Jean (L, 0-1) made nine saves in the loss while facing 23 shots. Fernando Robison was 17-24 in faceoffs for Siena.

The Warriors scored the game's first five goals in the opening 15-minute quarter. Potter put SHU on the board with a goal off an assist from Ethan Wissink at the 3:59 mark of the first. Webber International scored twice more before the quarter closed to give the Warriors the 7-1 advantage.

Gallaher scored in the first 31 seconds of the second quarter before Webber International tallied two more goals to extend the lead to 9-2. Potter scored a man-up goal off an assist from Devin Plemmons, and Gallaher scored his second goal to end the first half with a 10-4 score in favor of the Warriors.

Three scores in the third pushed the deficit to nine goals, 13-4, before Potter completed his hat trick in the final five ticks of the third stanza.

After a goal by the Warriors made the score 14-5 in the fourth, Quillen scored an unassisted goal, and Hudnut tallied a man-up goal to half the lead with 4:22 remaining. But unfortunately, the Saints were unable to score anymore before the clock expired.

The Saints make the short trip across town to face Adrian College next Saturday, February 26. The game with the Bulldogs is scheduled to start at 4:00 p.m., EST.
