Saints Falter Against Lourdes

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights men's lacrosse team faltered in an 8-5 loss to Lourdes on Monday night. Eric Csizmadia led the Saints with four points (2g, 2a) in the loss.

THE BASICS

Final Score: Lourdes 8, Siena Heights 5

Location: Adrian, Michigan (O'Laughlin Stadium)

Record: Lourdes (3-3, 1-2 WHAC), Siena Heights (2-2, 1-2 WHAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED

Tyler Pezzot scored the first two goals of the game to put the Gray Wolves ahead 2-0. The third goal by Lourdes in the first quarter had the score at 3-0 heading into the second quarter.

Csizmadia then rattled off two goals in the second, the second of his goals came during a man-up situation. Pezzot then netted a third goal before Garnet Potter scored to cut the Gray Wolves' advantage to 4-3 as the teams went into the half.

Siena Heights had an opportunity to tie things up in the third quarter when Lourdes was given a two-minute non-release penalty with 9:01 on the clock in the third stanza. A turnover by SHU gave Lourdes the ball and they were able to kill off the man-up advantage to maintain the one-goal lead. Jimmy McGrath scored off an assist from Csizmadia with just under a minute and a half left to tie things up at four goals apiece. A goal by the Gray Wolves with 12 seconds gave the visitors another one-score edge, 5-4, as the game moved into the final quarter.

Lourdes dominated possession in most of the second half. The offensive attack was slow and deliberate as they burned away the clock and limited possessions for the Saints. The Gray Wolves extended the lead to two in the first 25 seconds of the fourth, 6-4. Another goal at 10:05 put Lourdes ahead 7-4. Jake Gallaher scored off an assist from Csizmadia cut things to 7-5, but a final goal by the visitors with 1:06 remaining sealed things.
