Saints Pull Away from Trojans on the Road

TAYLOR, Ind. – The Siena Heights men's lacrosse team pulled away from Taylor in an 18-9 win on the road on Saturday afternoon. Jake Gallaher led the Saints with eight points in the game with three goals and five assists.

THE BASICS

Final Score: Siena Heights 18, Taylor 9

Location: Upland, Indiana

HOW IT HAPPENED

Taylor took the lead with a goal in the opening two minutes of the game. Garnet Potter responded with an unassisted goal with 9:48 on the clock to tie things up. Gallaher then scored less than a minute later to give the Saints a 2-1 lead and would never surrender the lead for the rest of regulation. Devin Plemmons extended the lead to 3-1 at the eight-minute mark and Potter built it to 4-1 40 seconds later. The teams traded goal to a 6-3 score toward the end of the first quarter. The Trojans scored two straight at the end of the quarter to cut the score to 6-5.

Two goals were scored in the second quarter, both by Siena Heights, to put things at 8-5 as the teams moved into the half.

Siena Heights exploded with eight goals in the third while holding Taylor to only two goals in the same period. As the fourth quarter started, the Saints led 16-7 and SHU maintained the advantage until the clocks hit zeros.

TOP SAINTS

• Gallaher added eight ground balls to his totals.

• Potter finished with seven points with three goals and four assists.

• Plemmons also scored a hat trick and added two assists with four ground balls.

Alec Emerson was the fourth Siena Heights player to register a hat trick.

Jeff Putz led defensively with a game-high 13 ground balls.

Vinnie Jean made 11 saves to earn the win.

THE OPPOSITION

• Aidan Craig led the Trojans with two goals and five assists.

• Emmit Wintek scored a team-high four goals.

• Chad Nelson led defensively with nine ground balls.

UP NEXT

The Saints host Lourdes on Monday, March 29 at 7:00 p.m. The game was rescheduled from last Wednesday, March 24.
