Lewandowski Nets Five in Men's Lacrosse Season Opener

CUMBERLANDS, Ky. -- Shane Lewandowski netted five goals in the No. 5 Siena Heights men's lacrosse 13-7 victory over No. 3 Missouri Baptist season-opener in non-conference action, on Saturday.

Missouri Baptist (3-1) opened the scoring one minute into action but the Saints responded with three goals of their own before the end of the quarter.

Again, the Spartans tied it up 3-3 with 12:29 remaining in the second quarter. With back-and forth goal scoring action, the Saints led 6-5 heading into halftime.

SHU (1-0) went on a scoring spree in the third quarter, netting four goals and allowing none. The Saints held on to their lead for the remainder of the game.

Leading the Saints was Lewandowski with five goals and two assists. Chris Acton scored three goals while earning four assists. Alex Gilbert, John Holowaty, Nathan Lipon, Matt Roesner and Danny Kreitzer each scored a goal for the Saints. Nicholas Lyons earned two assists.

Tyler Hooper earned the win between the pipes for SHU, making 15 saves and picking up eight groundballs.

For the Spartans, Austin Dahl scored four goals and picked up 16 ground balls. In goal, Robert Ates made five saves.

Next up, the Saints will take on Cumberlands (Ky.) in a 7 p.m. contest, on Monday.
