Hooper, Orr Efforts Earn #10 Men's Lax Upset Victory Over #2 Lourdes

ADRIAN, Mich. -- Sophomore goaltender Tyler Hooper and sophomore attack Danny Orr helped lead the 10th-ranked Siena Heights men's lacrosse team to a 9-8 overtime conference victory over second-ranked Lourdes (Ohio), on Friday.

Hooper made two crucial saves in the last 23 seconds of regulation to send the Saints (7-3, 2-0) into overtime. Orr finished the game-winner with 39 seconds left in the first overtime to earn the upset victory over the Gray Wolves.

The flow of the game was back-and-forth with scores 2-2 at the end of the first quarter and Siena leading 5-4 going in halftime.

Orr finished a pass from Spencer Macek only four seconds into the third quarter to hold the Saints' biggest lead of the night, 6-4. Lourdes then finished back-to-back goals to tie it up. Tom Kreitzer answered with an unassisted goal to put the Saints up by one heading into the fourth quarter.

The Gray Wolves (9-2, 1-1) notched two more goals to earn the 8-7 lead with only 2:42 remaining in regulation. With 1:54 left on the clock, Nate Woods found Orr who finished the game-tying goal for SHU. Lourdes pushed hard for the game-winner but was shut down by the Saints defense led by Hooper. Hooper made two saves with less than 23 seconds left in the game. Joshua Abruzzo intercepted a Gray Wolves' pass and then sent the ball down field to ensure the Saints overtime.

Siena Heights won the overtime faceoff and kept the ball in Lourdes half for the duration of the game. SHU got off three shots, managing to maintain possession after each shot. Finally, Orr saw his opportunity and fired a shot past the Lourdes goalie to earn the win for Siena.

Orr led the Saints with five goals and one assist. Macek notched two goals and one assist while Woods and Kreitzer each had a solo goal. Woods finished with two assists.

Defensively, Hooper earned the win making 13 saves for SHU, five coming in the fourth quarter. Abruzzo had four caused turnovers and four groundballs while Stephen Bloxam earned seven groundballs. Mark Ward went 9-of-12 in faceoffs for Siena. Conner Mishler stopped 14 shots for Lourdes.

Siena Heights outshot Lourdes, 48-30, and only had seven turnovers compared to LU's 12.

Next up, SHU will host Lawrence Tech in a 7 p.m. conference game on Wednesday.
