Interim Tag Removed: Ioanou Named SHU Golf Coach

ADRIAN, Mich. -- Siena Heights athletic director Sue Syljebeck has announced the hire of alum Andrew Ioanou as the SHU head men's and women's golf coach. Ioanou officially takes over the program from previous coach Al Sandifer, who was Ioanou's collegiate coach.

"Andrew had the tough job of taking over our program after legendary coach Al Sandifer accepted a job in our athletic administration," Syljebeck said. "I am grateful to both: Al Sandifer for his leadership and Andrew who stepped into the interim position. Andrew pushed our golfers to be better and installed new technologies to assist them in doing so. I look forward to our continued success in both golf programs."

Ioanou, a 2016 SHU grad, joined the Saints' coaching staff as a graduate assistant in 2020. He had previously attended Siena Heights from 2014 to 2016 after transferring from Schoolcraft. He graduated in 2016 with a bachelor's degree in business administration and then earned his masters in accounting from Siena Heights in 2022. Ioanou was part of a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference championship team in 2015-16 when the Saints won the regular-season crown.

"Thanks to Coach Sandifer for teaching me everything and showing me the ropes," Ioanou said. "Thanks to Sue and every other coach. I'm excited to get started."

The SHU golf teams racked up a collection of awards during Ioanou's interim year, including a pair of All-WHAC awards (Benjamin Ellis, First Team men, and Skylar Whitman, Second Team women). The Saints' golfers totaled six Academic All-WHAC awards. At the WHAC Championships, the men placed third while the women were fourth.

Thanks to Coach Sandifer for teaching me everything and showing me the ropes. Thanks to Sue and every other coach for showing me the ropes. I'm excited to get started."
