Men’s Bowling Goes 1-2 at WHAC Championships

CANTON, Mich. – The Siena Heights men's bowling team posted a 1-2 record at the Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference Championships at Super Bowl in Canton, Mich., getting knocked out in the second round of the losers bracket.

The tournament was double-elimination style, with teams being seeded one through eight based on WHAC regular-season standings. Siena started the day as the number four seed.

In the first match, the Saints went up against number five seed Aquinas in which SHU jumped out to an early 2-0 lead behind games of 224-208 and 214-161.

In the third game of the first match, Aquinas rallied back to make the series 2-1 after defeating Siena Heights 191-153, but the Saints would close the deal on a narrow 179-176 win.

Next up for the Saints was number one seed Concordia, the WHAC regular season champions.

Using their momentum from the previous match, SHU jumped out to a 1-0 lead after a 187-156 win. It was all Concordia from there on out, however, as the Cardinals defeated Siena by games of 255-209, 245-210 and 242-192 to send the Saints to the losers bracket.

In the losers bracket, the Saints matched up with number five seed Davenport, who was coming in hot after eliminating number two seed Lawrence Tech 3-1.

Siena Heights got off to a strong start, putting the Panthers in a 2-0 hole following wins of 191-187 and 235-145. Davenport came back to eliminate the Saints in heartbreaking fashion, however, coming back down 2-0 to win 3-2 behind games of 203-191, 205-171 and 211-172.

The seven seeded Indiana Tech Warriors went on to win the tournament, defeating number three seed Northwestern Ohio in the finals 3-2.

The Saints will join 77 other men collegiate bowling teams Feb. 19-21 when they compete in the 47th annual Hoosier Classic in Indianapolis, Ind., widely regarded as the biggest regular season tournament in college bowling.
