Men's Basketball Falls to Cornerstone

ADRIAN, Mich. -- Shawn Brown led the day for the Siena Heights men's basketball team scoring 16 points, and coming down with nine rebounds in a loss to Cornerstone 73-59 on January 6th.

Along with Shawn Brown, Delano Williams scored 15 points and came down with four rebounds.

The Saints 5-9 (3-6) and Cornerstone were in a tight battle in the first half, until the Golden Eagles made a 23-10 run to end the half to go up 40-27 at halftime.

In the second half, after trailing 53-36 with 11:35 left to go, the Saints went on a 9-1 run to pull into within nine points at 54-45, until Cory Ainsworth made a layup to go up 56-45 with 7:43 left in the game. From that point on, the Saints could not finish the comeback as they lost 73-59. Coach Joe Pechota said "I thought we played really hard tonight, but our level of physicality and toughness in the paint did not match theirs. When you're playing a big, strong team, like cornerstone, and you get the ball in the spots where you want them around the basket, you've got to finish those plays."

The Saints shot 38.2% from the floor and 37.5% from behind the arc. Cornerstone won the battle on the glass, outrebounding Siena Heights 44-29.

SHU will play next when they host University of Michigan-Dearborn on Wednesday, January 10 at 8 PM.
