Walker Hits Late Game-Winner as Men's Hoops Downs Madonna

LIVONIA, Mich. -- Davin Walker scored 28 points, including the game-winning jumper with nine seconds left, as the Siena Heights men's basketball team earned a 66-65 win over WHAC opponent Madonna on Thursday.

Walker also had six rebounds for the Saints (6-16, 3-11). He finished 12 of 18 from the field and 3 of 7 from 3-point land.

Curtis Bell III had a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Delano Williams added 13 points and seven rebounds while Colin Nutter contributed 10 points.

Siena Heights nearly led wire-to-wire after starting the contest on a 10-3 run. The Saints took a 32-25 edge into halftime and stayed in front until Madonna took a 63-62 advantage on a layup by Blank Banks.

Another Madonna layup, this time by Mark Mettie, pushed the Crusaders lead to 65-62 before Walker led the Saints back.

Walker made a jumper with 57 seconds remaining and, after Siena Heights made a defensive stop, Walker put the Saints ahead 66-65 with another jumper.

Madonna called a timeout ahead of its final possession, but SHU held as Banks missed a layup at the buzzer.

Mettie was Madonna's leading scorer with 20 points. Banks had 15.

The Saints (6-16, 3-11) will return to competition on Saturday with a 3 p.m. game at WHAC opponent Michigan-Dearborn.
