Zoure Scores 36 in Debut as Men's Basketball Downs UMD

ADRIAN, Mich. -- Junior college transfer Muhammed Zoure scored 36 points in his Siena Heights debut as the Saints' men's basketball team defeated WHAC opponent Michigan-Dearborn, 106-98, on Monday night at the SHU Fieldhouse.

Zoure, a center from Oakland Community College, finished 14 of 15 from the field and 8 of 12 from the free-throw line. He fell two points short of the single-game school record of 38, which is shared by Jerome Jones (vs. Grand Valley State, Feb. 4, 1981) and Cecil Clark (vs. Saint Xavier, Dec. 21, 2011).

Delano Williams added 22 points and Davin Walker contributed 15 points, six assists and five rebounds. Also for SHU (5-11, 2-6), T.J Hallett scored 12 points while Curtis Bell III had a double-double, finishing with 10 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists.

The Saints trailed by as many as 10 points after the hot-shooting Wolverines went 10 of 11 from 3-point range in the first half.

UMD had led 48-38 late in the first half until SHU took the lead for good with a 20-5 stretch across both periods. The Saints scored the final six points of the first and then continued with a 14-5 run to open the second.

Siena Heights held the lead the rest of the way, but not before the Wolverines provided a bit of a challenge. A 3-ball by Vyshonn Munson pulled UMD within 83-82, but that was close as the visitors were able to get.

Elwood Tomlinson was Dearborn's leading scorer with 21 points while Ibrahim Mohamed, Maurice Anderson and Munson put in 20, 19 and 18 points, respectively.

The Saints will be in action next on Saturday with a 3 p.m. visit to WHAC opponent Lawrence Tech.
