SHU Men's Basketball Stumbles Against Visiting Trailblazers

Adrian, Mich. – The Siena Heights men's basketball team kicked off the 2022-23 season at home in the SHU fieldhouse against Ohio Christian. The Saints fell in a close game 72-83 after a hard-fought battle.

Freshman Jonas Tester led SHU racking up 17 points while shooting 3-5 from the three-point line, in his collegiate debut. The Wauseon, Ohio native also picked up four rebounds and two steals. Senior Curtis Bell III tied Tester with 17 total points going 5-9 from the field while snagging eight rebounds five assists, and three steals. Luis Young added 14 points to the Saints score and collected five assists and two steals. Colin Nutter earned 12 points and 10 rebounds as Davin Walker tallied 10 points and two assists.

Starting off strong the Saints led early in the first only turning over the lead with 12 minutes left. The Trailblazers went on a four-basket run creating separation that would follow Siena into the half.

SHU climbed back up to tie Ohio Christian 43-43 four minutes into the second. But unable to get hot the Saints traded baskets only seeing a run of seven as the largest point gain.

Quote from Coach:

"I think we can take a lot from tonight and apply it moving forward. We have to start every single day in practice with a heightened mental approach to everything that we do. Average players get bored at practice great players look forward to the challenge. That's where we need to get better. We've run drills and situations like a minute and fifty, down three points in practice, and had a chance tonight. We just got to get better at those situations. Unfortunately, we didn't earn it tonight, but we will have a chance to earn it later."
