Grand Rapids, Mich. – SHU takes down Aquinas College in Grand Rapids Saturday night in a big win on the road. Siena Heights won 75-65 during a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference game, taking down Aquinas College who is ranked 7th in the conference standings.
Kevin Rice put up a total of 24 points in Saturday's game while adding six rebounds, three assists, two steals, and one block to the team stats. Luis Young tallied 16 points for the Saints shooting 5-7 from the floor, with three rebounds and three steals. Curtis Bell III raked in 14 points and 18 total rebounds for SHU.
Davin Walker started off the game with a quick jumper for two. The blue and yellow went on a little run of four around the fifteen-minute mark while bringing down important defensive rebounds. Aquinas made a few free throws to try and gain momentum but was quickly shut down by a dunk from Kevin Rice that led to a run of 10 for Siena Heights. The Saints continued to put up multiple points at a time, going on mini runs, which only added to their push towards victory. SHU led by 14 points going into the half, leaving the score 39-25.
Turnovers and blocked shots plagued both teams during the first few minutes of the half resulting in a scoring drought. Until Jesse Hillis from AQ made two free throws to be the first points made in the second half. Not to be detoured, the blue and yellow kept pushing points continuing to put up back-to-back baskets and furthering the score gap. Jayden Sims made crucial free throws in the last minute of the game taking away any hope Aquinas had for a comeback. The game ended with a layup from Jesse Hillis from AQ to make the score 75-65 in favor of Siena Heights.
