Saints Fall in Overtime

Grand Rapids, Mich. -- The Siena Heights University Men's Basketball played at Cornerstone University Saturday, January 29th, in a WHAC conference game. SHU played a tight game against the Golden Eagles taking them into overtime. The final score was 84-81 in favor of Cornerstone.

The Saints had four athletes put up double digits and a team total of 27 rebounds with 26 points from the paint. Kevin Rice scored 23 points, had seven rebounds, two assists, and one block. Davin Walker put up 22 points with a total of three rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Jayden Sims added his 13 points, one rebound, four assists, and one steal to the team stats. As did Kiewuan Graham who totaled 12 points shooting 5-6 from the floor. Graham also had four rebounds, three assists, and one steal.

Davin Walker started off the first half with a three-point shot for SHU, only thirty seconds into the game. Siena Heights wasted no time to take an early lead going up 9-0. The blue and yellow continued to pull away with a nine-point run. Cornerstone made multiple two-point baskets in an attempt to close the gap until Landon Links hit a three-pointer to help the Saints pull away near the end of the first half. Putting up 16 points in the last five minutes of the half to go into halftime leading 42-35.

Cornerstone came out of halftime ready to go with a quick layup from Cory Ainsworth. The Golden Eagles continued to creep closer to SHU getting the score within one possession. Sims and Walkers made baskets to help Siena Heights pull away although, Cornerstone took the lead at the twelve minute mark. The lead changed five times near the end of the second half as the two teams struggled to gain the upper hand. The score was 72-70 with 12 seconds left when Kiewuan Graham made a layup to send the game into overtime, with an ending score of 72-72.

Starting off overtime, the lead continued to switch back and forth between the Saints and the Golden Eagles. Until Cornerstone put up five points pulling away from SHU. Rice and Graham both made important baskets for Siena. Unfortunately, time ran out leaving the Saints trailing by three points, to make the final score 84-81.
