Crusaders Pull Away From Saints in WHAC Opener

LIVONIA, Mich. -- The Siena Heights men's basketball team suffered a 70-47 loss at Madonna in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) opener on Wednesday night. The Saints (1-4, 0-1) struggled shooting in the second half as the Crusaders outscored SHU 44-22 in the second half for the win.

Davin Walker led the Saints offensively with 12 points and two assists. Trevon Montgomery had a team-high five rebounds while also scoring seven points in the losing effort.

Madonna's 9-2 run pushed the score to 24-17 with 4:03 left in the first half. However, the Saints responded with a 6-0 run to end the period with a 26-25 deficit as the teams entered the locker room.

Back-to-back layups resulted in the game's first double-digit lead, 40-30, with 15:24 left in regulation. SHU failed to score a field goal for 6:30 minutes that saw a 7-0 run expand the margin to 47-31. Another run by the home team (8-0) moved Madonna ahead by 20 points with just over eight minutes left to play. The Saints shooting woes prevented them from closing the gap before the clock hit zeros.
