Men's Basketball Stumbles Against Montana State-Northern on Sunday

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights men's basketball team fell 77-52 against Montana State-Northern on Sunday evening. The Saints (1-3) struggled to stop the Lights from beyond the arc as the visitors made 13 three-point shots in the contest. 

Curtis Bell III led SHU with 14 points on 5-10 shooting in the game. Elijah Sterling scored nine points, and Chad Elliott had eight in the losing effort. Bell III also led the team in rebounds with seven.

The game was closely contested through most of the first half as neither team could pull away as the score was 26-21 in favor of the Lights heading into the final five minutes of the half. A layup sparked a 7-0 run for MSUN the gave the team its first double-digit lead, 33-21, and the visitors never looked back from that point. Montana State-Northern shot an impressive 7-14 from three in the first half while the Saints missed their first five attempts from deep. SHU shot almost 41% from the floor in the opening 20 minutes of play as a team. 

The shooting woes for the home team continued into the second half as the Saints shot 36% as a team and struggled from distance, going 3-10 in the final half of play while surrendering six threes to the opponent. Sterling was a bright spot for the Saints offensively as he was a perfect 3-3 off the bench for nine points to lead the team in points.

The Saints will look to bounce back on the road against Madonna as they begin league play on Wednesday, November 10. The game is scheduled to tip at 7:30 p.m.
