Rio Grande Sinks Saints to Round Out Rio Grande Classic

RIO GRANDE, Ohio. -- The Siena Heights men's basketball was defeated by Rio Grande to round out the Rio Grande Classic, on Saturday afternoon. Keith Jordan Jr. (Senior, Toledo, Ohio) led the Saints with 22 points and six rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Saints jumped out to a six-point lead (10-4) at the 15:36 mark after a layup was good by DeMarco Dickerson (Senior, Detroit, Mich). The Redstorm rallied to tie things up at 16's after a layup was good by Gunner Short with 10:16 left on the clock. The teams traded possession throughout the first half as the score remained close. Rio Grande earned a seven-point lead (35-28) after a layup was made by Kyle Lamotte with 1:09 left to play in the half. SHU cut the margin to five points (30-35) with 53 seconds left of play as Jordan made a pair of free throws. The score remained 35-30 with the Redstorm in the lead as both teams headed to the locker room.

Rio Grande came out scoring 13 points to give themselves a 15-point lead (49-34) at the 14:08 mark sparked by a layup made by Hadith Tiggs. The Saints cut the deficit to nine points (48-57) after Jordan drained a three-point shot with 8:46 left to play in the game. The Redstorm held a double digit lead over SHU the rest of the half, including their biggest lead of the game of 16 points with 4:33 left on the clock after Short made a layup. The Saints fought back to cut the lead but Rio Grande returned to a 16 point lead at the 30 second mark after a pair of free throws were good by Tiggs. SHU updated the score to 63-77 after Kevin Rice (Junior, Detroit, Mich.) made a layup with 16 seconds left in the game but it was not enough as the Redstorm walked away with the victory.

TOP SAINTS

• Jordan shot 7-13 from the floor, 7-7 from the charity stripe, had three blocks, and one steal.

• Dickerson had 20 points, eight rebounds, three assists, one block and one steal.

• Rice had 12 points, six rebounds, and one block.

THE OPPOSITION

• Short led the Redstorm with 21 points, three rebounds, and five assists.

• Lamotte had 18 points, went 7-9 from the floor, and 4-4 on three point attempts.

• Tiggs had 13 points, five rebounds, three assists, and one block.

UP NEXT

The Saints host cross town rival Adrian College on Tuesday, November 26th. The game is scheduled to tip-off at 8:00 p.m., EST.
