Randle Helps Men's Basketball to Victory in the 2017-18 Season Opener

ADRIAN, Mich. – Nick Randle scored 20 points to help the Siena Heights men's basketball to a 74-65 victory over non-conference opponent Trinity Christian in the season opener, on Monday.

Taking the early lead was the Trolls with an 8-4 lead with 14:10 left in the first period. With 13:00 even on the clock, the Saints took a 9-8 lead and went on to score nine more points before the Trolls scored again. Siena Heights led 36-20 at half time.

SHU (1-0 overall) kept pushing and went up 50-29 with 16:31 left in the game. TCC ( 2-1 overall) took a critical time out that put the Trolls back on track, trimming the Saints' lead to 61-57 with only 5:40 on the clock. A three-pointer by Randle helped Siena Heights back on their feet and he added the final two points of the game converting two free throws with 2:18 left on the game clock.

Tony Jackson II earned a double-double for the Saints, managing 13 points and 10 rebounds. Randle tallied 20 points and seven assists as Trevor Holston added 11 points and three rebounds. Two Trolls earned 17 points apiece: Nari Garrett and Juozas Balciunas. Garrett also added nine rebounds. Caleb Jonkman led with four assists, tallying 10 points.

As a team, Siena Heights went 28-60 (46.7%) from the floor, 9-30 (30.0%) behind the arc and 9-14 (64.3%) from the charity stripe. Trinity Christian went 26-49 (53.1%) overall, 10-21 (47.6%) in three-point land and 3-6 from the free throw line.

Siena Heights will return to action on Wednesday as the Saints travel to Spring Arbor for a non-conference contest, at 7 p.m.
