Jerrell Martin Earns 1,000-Point Milestone

VIDEO INTERVIEW with MARTIN

Siena Heights men's basketball senior Jerrell Martin reached the 1,000-point milestone in his game on Saturday, January 14, at Indiana Tech.

Martin went into the game with 991 career points, only needing nine more to join the 1,000-point club. With 00:57 remaining in the first half, Martin battled through the Warriors defense to make an "and-one" layup, assisted by Kevin Smith II.

Since Siena Heights has had a men's basketball program in 1974, 37 different Saints have become a member of the 1,000-point club, Martin becoming the 37th member on Saturday. The last Saint to score over 1,000 points was Mark Snipes in 2007-11. Only one Saint has surpassed 2,000 points, Brent Tucker scored 2,122 points in his four-year career in 1990-94.

Coach Pechota has coached six athletes to score over 1,000 points, Martin his first SHU athlete to reach this milestone.

Currently Martin leads Siena Heights with 224 points in 18 games, nearing his season-best of 300 points. He now has 1,007 career points.

The Saints will return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Concordia for an 8 p.m. tip-off.
