Men's Basketball Holds On for Victory Over Michigan-Dearborn

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The Siena Heights men's basketball team defeated Michigan-Dearborn 65-58 in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference contest at the Crisler Center, on Saturday.

SHU (5-4, 2-3 WHAC) opened the game with a 10-0 jump over the Wolverines through only two minutes of action. The Saints maintained a steady lead throughout the half, leading 38-23 at the end of the first half.

Michigan-Dearborn slowly cameback, cutting their deficit to 46-40 with 11:04 remaining in the game. It remained close for the remainder of the game until a late SHU surge set the Saints up by seven points for the win.

Leading the Saints with 15 points was Christopher Pearl and Jerrell Martin. Pearl grabbed seven boards and five steals, also adding four assists. Martin brought down five rebounds and added an assist.

Nick Randle, Tony Jackson II and Trevor Holston each scored 10 points for SHU. Randle had a tea-leading seven assists.

Jason Penn and Marcus Williams scored 17 and 13 points for the Wolverines (7-5, 2-3 WHAC), respectively.

As a team, the Saints shot 24-56 (42.9%) on the floor and 5-15 (33.3%) behind the arc. The Wolverines went 23-52 (44.2%) overall and 3-13 (23.1%) in three-point land. SHU went 12-15 while UM-Dearborn went 9-14 at the charity stripe.

Next up, the Saints will host WHAC opponent Northwestern Ohio on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. tipoff.
