Men's Basketball Falls Short to Aquinas in Overtime

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Siena Heights men's basketball team suffered a 71-63 OT conference loss to 22nd-ranked Aquinas, on Wednesday.

With 12 points, Tony Jackson was the leading scorer for the Saints. He was followed closely by George Goodman, who had 11 points and added seven assists.

Myles Copeland opened up the scoring for the Saints. SHU came within two on a basket by Jackson to make it 14-16. From there Siena Heights would go into half down 30-18.

SHU opened the second half strong, pulling within four at 13:39 when Christopher Pearl made a three. Jake Bullock of Aquinas had five unanswered points before Goodman pulled SHU within eight. 

Alec Myers was able to push the Saints with in five, before Jackson had a quick fast break basket to cut the lead to three. Goodman drains a three to send the game into overtime.

To start overtime, Aquinas came out strong with a 7-2 run, and SHU could not overcome the deficit.

As a team, the Saints shot 27-65 in field goal attempts (41.5 percent) and 4-15 from behind the arch. AQ (14-5, 10-1) shot 27-57 from the field (47.3 percent), and 7-19 from behind the arch.

The Saints (7-12, 3-8) will be back in action, on Saturday, when they host Lawrence Tech. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
