Saints Almost Escape With Miracle Comeback

Lima, OH - The Saints almost pulled off a miracle last minute comeback at the University Northwestern Ohio Saturday afternoon.  Down eight points with less than a minute left, the Saints saw their final game tieing three pointer miss and their miracle finish fall three points short, 62-59.

After the Saints led 33-25 at halftime, a 14-2, six minute run by UNOH gave the Racers their first lead of the second half.  After several small runs by both teams the Saints found themselves down eight points with only 46 seconds left.

George Goodman than scored two baskets and Jerrell Martin added one free throw to put the Saints down three with only eight seconds left.

The Saints then fouled the Racers, and after a pair of made free throws found themselves down five with only seven seconds to go.

Siena Heights raced down the floor and Goodman made a two-point jumper to put the Saints down three.  Tony Jackson stole the ball from the Racers and gave Chris Pearl a three-point attempt as the time ran out on the game.

Goodman led the Saints with 16 points and six assists.  Jackson added 12 points to go with his clutch last second steal.  Rounding out the Saints top scorers was Stone Beckwith with another 12 points.

The Saints outscored the Racers 16-4 in the paint and held a 6-0 advantage in fast break points.

Davon Payne scored 22 points, while Trey Guilliam added 11 to lead the Racers.

Siena Heights will return to action next Saturday, January 9th, when they host Lourdes University.  Tip off will be at 7:30 pm.
