Men's Hoops Drops Contest to SAU

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights men's basketball team dropped a 78-61 contest to non-conference opponent Spring Arbor, on Monday.

With seven minutes remaining in the first half, SHU took a one point lead, forcing the Cougars to take a timeout. The Saints battled back but left the first half with an eight point deficit.

The Cougars came out strong, taking their lead up to 17 points after nine minutes of play. The Saints fought back, keeping the lead consistent but it wasn't enough in the end. Coach Joseph Pechota reflected, "In a rivalry game, you have to bring effort and urgency. We just didn't bring it in the second half."

Aaron Cook lead in points for the Saints. He finished with 17 points and nine boards. Fellow forward Jerrell Martin was right behind him with 15 points and nine rebounds. Off the bench, Alec Myers added 12 ponts and 2 assists.

Greg Hamilton was the sharp-shooter for the Cougars, finishing with 21 points and leading the team in five rebounds. Two other Cougars shot in double digits, Peter Barry (12) and Zach Medendorp (10).

The Cougars shooting percentage topped the Saints, 31-60 (51.7 percent) and 26-67 (38.8 percent, respectively.

Siena Heights out rebounded SAU 43-34.

"We have to learn from this and move on. I'm anxious to see which Saints' team shows up Wednesday," infers Pechota about the upcoming game against Indiana Tech. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m., at home.
