Men's Hoops Knocks Off Cross-Town Rival Adrian

ADRIAN, Mich. -- Tyler Leighton had a double-double worth 15 points and 14 rebounds while three other Saints scored in double-figures as the Siena Heights men's basketball team defeated cross-town rival Adrian, 70-47, in a non-conference game on Monday at the SHU Fieldhouse.

Christian Covile added 14 points and seven rebounds while George Goodman contributed 13 points and seven assists.

Also for the Saints (7-9), Jerrell Martin compiled 12 points, eight rebounds and four blocks.

The visiting Bulldogs (2-9) led for much of the first half until Goodman tied the game at 19-all and then hit a free throw to give SHU its first lead with 5:33 left in the first half.

After taking a 28-27 advantage into intermission, Siena Heights broke the game open with a 14-3 run -- at one point, scoring eight straight points -- and widened the gap to 45-33. Leighton buried a pair of 3-pointers during the charge.

From there, SHU held its lead in double-digits.

As a team, the Saints finished 19 of 47 from the field (40.4 percent) and 29 of 34 from the free-throw line (85.3 percent).

Rickey Jackson had 17 points and six rebounds for Adrian. Jordan Denham added seven boards. AC finished 17 of 69 from the field (24.6 percent).

The Saints will return to action on Wednesday with an 8 p.m. Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference home game against Madonna.
