Second-Half Struggles Result in Men's Basketball Loss to Aquinas

ADRIAN, Mich. -- George Goodman compiled 14 points and six rebounds, but a slow start to the second half resulted in the Siena Heights men's basketball team's 71-60 loss to Aquinas in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play on Saturday at the SHU Fieldhouse.

Jerrell Martin added 12 points, seven rebounds and six blocks while Christian Covile contributed 12 points, eight rebounds and four steals.

The Saints (6-9, 3-5) led by as many as nine points in the first half before taking a 31-27 lead into halftime.

After scoring the last two points of the first half, Aquinas exploded for 17 straight points in the second, bridging a 19-0 run across both halves and taking a 44-31 advantage with 14:11 remaining.

From there, SHU pulled within seven points on one occasions, but could not come any closer.

Anthony Williams had 20 points and five rebounds to lead Aquinas (9-7, 5-3). Zac VanBeek aqdded 10 points while Jake Bullock grabbed seven rebounds.

Siena Heights will return to action on Monday with an 8 p.m. home contest against cross-town rival Adrian.
