Football's Murlin, Childs Put Skills To Test at CMU Pro Day

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. -- Siena Heights football players Kole Murlin and Armand Childs participated in a series of workouts and tests in front of 29 NFL scouts at Central Michigan's annual NFL Pro Day last Wednesday at the Chippewas' Indoor Athletic Complex.

A total of 16 participants put skills on display at the event. The two Saints were joined by nine CMU players, two former CMU players and one player each from Saginaw Valley State, Ferris State and Grand Valley State.

Murlin, a linebacker, had an impressive showing of 36 reps on the 225-pound bench press. That was the top performance at the CMU Pro Day and would have been No. 2 among all players at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis. The top number delivered by a linebacker at the Combine was 29, which Murlin bested by seven.

Murlin was a three-time All-American and a three-time MSFA Mideast Defensive Player of the Year in his time with SHU. Along with that, he was a four-time All-MSFA Mideast performer. Both Murlin and Childs, a defensive back, were named to the All-MSFA First Team in 2022.

Murlin was the leader of the MSFA's top defense in yards per game in 2020 and 2021. That unit stayed atop the league in 2022 when Childs joined the fold. Murlin is the Saints' all-time leader in career tackles with 415.

Childs finished with 183 tackles as a collegian; he played 2018-21 at Kentucky Wesleyan before transferring to SHU for his final year of eligibility. He made an immediate impact with a team-high three interceptions and seven pass breakups. Over the course of his college career, Childs had eight INTs and 8 1/2 tackles-for-loss.
