Eight Football Saints Honored For Work In Classroom

The 2022 Academic All-District® Football Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field or court and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes football and volleyball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
 
Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First- and second-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in late December.  The CSC Academic All-District® teams include the student-athletes listed.
 
The Division II and III CSC Academic All-America® programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2022-23 Divisions II and III Academic All-America® programs. The NAIA CSC Academic All-America® program is partially financially supported through the NAIA national office. 

The Saints saw eight football players honored.  Andrew Bookman, a redshirt freshman punter from Pickerington, Ohio played in all ten games for the Saints.  He hit every punt for the Saints, pinning 19 punts inside the 20 yard line.  He is majoring in education.  Nico Fernandez, a redshirt sophomore defensive lineman from Wyandotte, Michigan played in eight games recording ten tackles on the season.  He is majoring in business.  Zach Keyser, a redshirt sophomore linebacker from Spring Lake, Michigan played in all ten games for the Saints recording 58 tackles.  He is majoring in business.  Nik Martin, a redshirt sophomore linebacker from Fort Wayne, Indiana played in ten games and was a crucial piece on special teams.  He is majoring in business.  Kole Murlin, a senior linebacker from Celina, Ohio played in all ten games, leading the Saints defense and being named MSFA Mideast Defensive Player of the Year for the third time.  He is majoring in education.  Bobby Opalewski, a redshirt sophomore wide receiver from Metamora, Ohio played in all ten games, netting 223 reception yards and one touchdown on the year.  He is majoring in criminal justice.  Kabe Sykora is a redshirt freshman kicker who played in all ten games for the Saints as the kickoff specialist.  He is majoring in biology.  Nick Turchiano, a junior offensive lineman from Cincinnati, Ohio played in nine games for the Saints this year.  He is majoring in sport management.

In order to be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher.
