Three-Touchdown First Quarter Pushes Saints Past Madonna

LIVONIA, Mich. – The Siena Heights football team used a 21-point first quarter to hold the lead against Madonna for Saturday's 45-26 win.

Kaleb Jefferson got things going with a four-yard touchdown run in the opening three minutes to put the Saints up 7-0. A pick-six for the Crusaders tied things up at seven before Eric Williams II, and Michael Guyton caught touchdown passes from Hayden Lehmann to push the advantage to 21-7 as the first quarter ended.

Madonna rallied with two touchdown tosses to creep within two points, 21-19, with 8:08 remaining in the half. Jamon Benson II rumbled for a 26-yard touchdown to extend the lead back to two scores. Jefferson added another touchdown run from one yard out with 59 ticks left in the half to give SHU a 35-19 lead at the intermission.

Anthony Secchi hit a 27-yard field goal, and Jefferson scored his third touchdown run in the second half as the Saint remained on top through the end of the second half to seal the victory for Siena Heights.

The Saints had 479 yards of total offense after 226 rushing yards and 253 passing yards. Lehmann finished with 202 yards passing and three touchdowns. Jefferson led the ground game with 161 yards and three scores. Guyton had four grabs for 75 yards and a score, while Williams II had five snags for 50 and a touchdown.

Kole Murlin led the defense with nine tackles and 1.5 sacks, along with two tackles for loss. Andrew McGaughy and Joseph Wharton finished with seven stops. Wharton added a team-high 3.5 tackles for loss.

Secchi made all six of his point-after touchdowns while also making his only field goal attempt.

UP NEXT

The Saints will return home for a matchup against the Blue Devils of Lawrence Tech next Saturday. Kick-off is scheduled for noon.
