Saints March Past Madonna in Homecoming Blowout

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights football team jumped out to a quick 28-0 lead in the first quarter and never looked back in a 71-6 blowout win over Madonna during the 2021 SHU Homecoming game. The Saints (3-3, 2-2) get back to .500 with the win.

Ethan LoPresto had a big day with 153 rushing yards (10.9 AVG) and a touchdown. His rushing totals, including a 57-yard touchdown run in the second quarter, pushed the score to 42-0. Five other Saints scored rushing touchdowns. Jared Jordan scored twice on the ground. Kaleb Jefferson, Andre Chenault, Quincy Johnson Jr., and Eric Williams II scored a rushing touchdown. Williams II also had a receiving touchdown. Anthony Secchi scored nine points on 9/10 extra-point attempts.

Kole Murlin led the defense with 11 tackles, a sack, two tackles for loss, and three pass breakups. Gabe Callery and Jalen Williams each had two interceptions. The Saints' defense smothered the Crusader offense with eight sacks on the afternoon. 

SHU capped the first two drives with rushing touchdowns to take a quick 14-0 lead. Williams then picked off a pass from Josh DePaulis and returned it 37 yards for a score and a 21-0 lead. Jordan scored the second of his touchdown runs on the next Siena Heights drive, and the Saints were ahead 28-0 before the close of the first quarter. 

Williams II put the ball into the endzone on a five-yard run in the first 32 seconds of the second quarter to push the Saints' lead to 35. LoPresto then hit his 57-yard touchdown scamper with 11:54 remaining in the half.  A blocked punt by Daneille Lowe Jr. gave SHU the 48-0 lead with 10:47 on the clock. Williams II caught a 46-yard touchdown pass from Ryan Minor for the final score of the half as the Saints took a 55-0 lead into the locker room.

In the third quarter, the Crusaders got on the board when Jesse Morris blocked a punt, and it was recovered in the endzone for six points. Two points were added to the Saint lead after a safety, and the lead was at 51 points (57-6) with 14:03 left in regulation. Chenault added to the blowout with a two-yard run with 9:19 left on the clock. Johnson Jr. finished the scoring for the Homecoming game with a 14-yard run with 2:01 left to play.

Next week, the Saints hit the road for a Mideast  League matchup against Lawrence Tech on Saturday, October 23. The game's kick-off time is slotted for noon.
