Football Chosen Fifth in MSFA Mideast League Preseason Poll

The Mid-States Football Association (MSFA) announced the 2021 MSFA Mideast League Preseason Coaches Poll on Monday afternoon. The Siena Heights football team was selected to finish fifth in the league standings with 28 total points. The Saints finished the 2020 season with a 2-2 overall record and a 1-2 mark in league play to finish fifth in the conference standings.

"[The preseason poll] means nothing to us," said head football coach Matt Kohn. "It's how you finish, not how you start."

The Saints return key starters on both sides of the ball including CoSIDA Academic All-America and Co-Defensive Player of the Year in the MSFA Mideast, Kole Murlin at linebacker. Murlin will be joined by first-team all-conference player Trenton Morrow and second-team all-conference defensive lineman Andrew Loria. Offensively, first-team All-MSFA Mideast running back Jared Jordan and wide receiver Eric Williams II both return.

Marian finished atop the poll after totaling 47 points and receiving five of the eight first-place votes. Concordia (Mich.) fell to second place with 43 points while receiving the other three first-place votes. Saint Francis (Ind.) edged out Indiana Wesleyan to remain at third with 33 points. The Wildcats tallied 32 points. Siena Heights held onto fifth place with 28 points while Lawrence Tech and Taylor tied for sixth with 17 points. Madonna rounded out the poll with seven points.
