Siena Heights football's sophomore defensive back Raymond Williams Jr. earned the Mid-States Football Association Mideast League Defensive Player of the Week award for his efforts in the 24-22 loss against fifth-ranked Saint Francis (Ind.), as announced by the league on Monday.
Williams made a career-high 14 tackles, six solo and eight unassisted, to help a solid SHU defense contain the USF offense. He helped the Saints hold USF to only 24 points--SHU is only team to keep the Cougars under 34 points other than top-seeded Marian (Ind.).
During the contest, Williams forced a USF fumble on the SHU one-yard line, stopping a touchdown and giving the Saints possession. Williams recovered two total fumbles for SHU.
In the final scoring drive for Saint Francis, Williams made a critical pass break up to force the Cougars into a field goal.
For the 2016 season, Williams has 14 solo tackles and 20 unassisted tackles for Siena Heights.
