Esports Weekly Recap: Overwatch and Rocket League Debut

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights Esports teams in Overwatch and Rocket League got started this week.

The Overwatch team consisted of Jacob Duls (eXeo), Ryan Reid (LexusX), Philip Cuthbertson (WinnableBTW), Shawn Adkins (Shruja), Adam Turnbow (HwatM8), and Jacob Thame (Cerulian) had its 1st match of NACE fall split against reigning champs, Northwood Unversity in Bo5 Tuesday night. Northwood took control of map 1 after an initial push by SHU. Northwood went on to win in straight sets, 3-0. Reid and Cuthbertson highlighted the effort for SHU in the losing effort with some 1v1 plays.

The team seems in a pretty good mindset especially after playing a matchup like this," said team captain, Jacob Dulz (eXeo). "We all went over individual improvements and things we did well and things can work on as a team, so I think it'll be useful."

Rocket League competed in a NACE week 1 matchup against Ferris State on Tuesday night. Ferris State took the series in straight sets, 3-0. Kyle Gonyon (YoMoisty) led the way in the set with five goals total. Corwin Allen (FootlessTub3) led defensively with eight saves. Lucas Dix (Synth) added 3 saves and 2 assists in the contest.

The team also competed in the first official WHAC contest against Cleary in the first of two matchups on Thursday night.  The Cougars took the match in straight sets, 4-1, 2-1, and 2-1. Gonyon led the way with 11 total shots and three goals in the series. Dix added three assists and one goal to the set. Allen notched in two saves.

The nightcap came in another WHAC matchup against Indiana Tech. The Warriors won game one 3-1. The Saints responded by taking the next two games by a score of 2-1. Tech rallied and earned wins in games four and five with scores of 5-1 and 7-1. Gonyon was the leader for SHU with 12 shots and four goals. Allen added two goals and three assists to go with his nine saves. Dix added one goal to his seven shots on goal. Savanna Mott (vladdy1418) contributed a pair of saves to the contest.
