Lucas Carvalho Named ECAC FIFA Player of the Year

DANBURY, Conn. – The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) announced its major awards for Esports that include the coach of the year, Spring 2021 season awards, and players of the year. Lucas Carvalho was the lone representative from the SHU Esports program as he was named the ECAC FIFA Player of the Year.

Lucas' season was purely one of dedication and drive," said SHU Esports Interim Head Coach Ben Sunderman. "The Fall season where he went undefeated, he played from home in Brazil due to not being allowed entrance back to the USA during some of the height of COVID. Lucas showed he is not only highly skilled and a top player in the ECAC but his drive to play however he could make it work is the kind of competitive spirit that makes the Saints a great force in esports. I am super proud of the character and success Lucas had to champion the ECAC league this year."

Carvalho went undefeated in the Fall 2020 season on his way to winning the Fall Championship with an average margin of victory of three goals per game. His only loss in the Fall came in the Championship round. This Spring, Carvalho was 6-1 in the regular season before advancing to the championship round of the Spring tournament, where he finished as the runner-up. He ended the 2020-21 seasons with a combined 17-2 record and brought home two trophies and two medals along with the MVP trophy for the Fall season.
