Baseball Splits with Cleary

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights baseball team returned to WHAC home action with a double-header split vs Cleary. In game one, the Saints fell 7-4, but came out victorius 2-1 in the second game after seven innings due to cold temperatures. 

The Saints will return to action on Thursday, March 28th vs Rochester at home. 

 

Game one: Cleary 7, Siena Heights 4 

Kenny Layman finished the game for the Saints going 2-for-3 with one RBI. Adam Wilding and Cole VanWasshenova both finished 2-for-4 and both scored two runs for the Saints. 

Pitcher Brandon Biggerstaff started the game with three strikeouts. Coming in for Biggerstaff was Matt Love who struck out two batters. Garret Smith then came in to play the final inning. 

 The Saints took a 2-1 lead as Thomas Bakoway had a Sacrafice fly which allowed Cole VanWasshenova to score to put the Saints up by one. Cleary then scored five straight runs to go up 6-2 before Bakoway doubled and recorded another RBI to pull the Saints within two at 6-4 after VanWasshenova ran in for a second time. The Saints did not score again and Cleary won game one.  

 

Game two: Siena Heights 2, Cleary 1 (7 Innings) 

The Saints scored two runs in the bottom of the fouth to come out victorius. Luc Olson was the winning pitcher for the Saints playing five innings forcing two strikeouts. Ben Weadock came in as relief pitcher and played in one inning and also forced two strikeouts. 

 Nick Tiller finished the game batting 1-for-2. Cole Mason and Adam Wilding each had one hit both going 1-for-3 with Wilding scoring one of the runs in the fourth inning. 

 In the bottom of the fourth inning, Cole Mason recorded a single RBI which allowed for Adam Wilding to score to tie the game at one. To put the Saints ahead for good was after Nick Tiller walked and Cole VanWasshenova scored on that walk with all of the bases loaded. The game then ended in the seventh inning as temperatures were below the WHAC requirements to continue the game.
