Baseball Sweeps Lourdes in Home Opener

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights baseball team defeated Lourdes twice in a pair of games. This series was considered an out of conference game, with this serving as make up games for the two missed games vs Midway (KY). 

The Saints (6-10) will return to action vs Cornerstone on Friday, March 15th. 

 

Game one: Siena Heights 8, Lourdes 4 

Cole VanWasshenova led the Saints in batting, going 2-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs. Adam Wilding also batted well going 2-for-3 with two runs. Jacob Jackson and Cole VanWasshenova both doubled in game one. 

Ben Weadock started the afternoon out pitching for the Saints. Weadock played in three innings allowing four hits, three runs, and one strikeout. Tim Polidor was the winning pitcher for the Saints in game one. Polidor played in two innings allowing one hit, one run, one error, and three strikeouts. Matt Loved relieved Polidor playing the final two innings and contributed with one strikeout. 

After trailing 3-0 to Lourdes to start the game, Adam Wilding scored on a passed ball to put the Saints up on the board. Then, VanWasshenova doubled to allow for two RBIs for the Saints to tie the game at three. To seal the deal in game one for the Saints, Brayden Hill had an RBI single, with Adam Wilding scoring on the game finishing run to win the game for the Saints 8-4. 

Game two: Siena Heights 9, Lourdes 3

Brayden Hill led the Saints going 2-for-3 with one RBI and one run. Cole VanWasshenova also had one hit, going 1-for-2 and scoring two runs. Ty Schroeder, Nick Tiller, and Jacob Jackson each contributed with a hit and each had a run. Cole Mason also scored as a pinch runner in game two. With RBIs, Brock Olmstead had two, Jacob Jackson had two, and Thomas Bakoway had one. 

In pitching, John Millen started game two with pitching two innings allowing two runs and two strikeouts. Garret Smith came in pitching three innings with two strikeouts and allowing two runs. Andrew Baum came in as a relief pitcher with one strikeout pitching in two innings. 

SHU never trailed in game two and jumped out to a 4-0 lead after Brayden Hill doubled and Nick Tiller scored. Lourdes then scored three straight runs to pull to within one run at 4-3. To end the game, the Saints scored five unanswered runs to win the game 9-3 after Matt Love and Ty Schroeder scored.
