Baseball Drops 8-7 Heartbreaker in Warner Invite Semifinal Round

LAKE WALES, Fla. -- The Siena Heights baseball team fell in walkoff fashion to Cumberlands (Ky.), 8-7, in the semifinal round of the Warner Invitational on Saturday.

Gino Hutchinson led the Saints' offense with a 4-for-4 game, finishing with a double, run, RBI and stolen base.

Brock Olmstead added a three-hit game with a double. Matt Love scored two runs and Cole VanWasshenova drove in two. Brayden Hill and Jacob Jackson doubled.

After Siena Heights fell behind 2-0 in the first two innings, an RBI double by Hutchinson halved that deficit.

Later, SHU was down 3-1 before taking the lead with a four-run fourth. Olmstead ripped an RBI double in the inning while Love drove in a run while reaching on an error, Cole Mason had an RBI groundout and VanWasshenova drew a bases-loaded walk.

Cumberlands quickly regained the lead in its half of the fourth, scoring four times to go up 7-5.

Siena Heights tied the game at 7-all in the sixth on RBI singles by VanWasshenova and Adam Wilding.

Cumberlands' Evan St. Claire had a one-out RBI double in the seventh to end the game.

The Saints (4-10) will return to action when they play their home opener on Tuesday -- a non-conference doubleheader against Lourdes set to start at 4 p.m.
