Baseball Goes 1-1 on Opening Day of Warner Invite

LAKE WALES, Fla. -- The Siena Heights baseball team split its first two games at the Warner Invitational on Thursday, taking a 9-4 victory over Dordt before falling to host Warner, 3-0.

The Saints will play twice more in the Warner Tournament on Friday against Concordia (Neb.) and Calumet.

Game one: Siena Heights 9, Dordt 4
Cole VanWasshenova batted 2-for-2 with two doubles, two runs, an RBI and a stolen base. Gino Hutchinson also had a two-hit game. Brayden Hill doubled.

Luc Olson was the winning pitcher, going four innings while allowing three earned runs on six hits. He struck out two batters. Reliever Andrew Baum worked three scoreless frames, striking out two himself. Neither SHU pitcher walked a batter.

The Saints never trailed after taking a 2-0 lead in the first. VanWasshenova had a sac fly in the inning.

SHU plated six in the third. Brock Olmstead and Nick Tiller had two-run singles. Jacob Jackson drew a bases-loaded walk and Hutchinson hit an RBI single.

After Dordt pulled within 8-4, Aidan Grinstead drove in the game's final run with a single.

Game two: Warner 3, Siena Heights 0
Ben Weadock had a strong outing on the hill despite the loss, working five innings. He was charged with one earned run off three hits. He had four strikeouts and two walks.

Relievers Matt Love and Shilo Bernal Jr. pitched scoreless innings.

Hutchinson and VanWasshenova had SHU's only two hits.
