Baseball Rallies From Eight-Run Deficit Before Tough Walkoff Loss

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Siena Heights baseball team clawed its way back from an eight-run deficit before falling in walkoff fashion to Cornerstone, 10-9, on Thursday.

The Saints (9-27, 6-18) faced deficits of 8-0 and 9-1 until scoring eight runs in the sixth inning, tying the contest at 9-9, before the hosts won in the ninth.

Adam Wilding had two doubles for the SHU offense. Nick Tiller had two hits, Jacob Jackson had three RBI and Thomas Bakoway added two RBI.

Brayden Hill and Haydn Smith hit doubles.

Matt Scally's RBI single in the fifth accounted for Siena Heights' only run before the Saints' eight-run sixth.

Wilding smacked an RBI double and Bakoway followed with a two-run homer. A two-run single by Anthony Scali set the stage for a game-tying, three-run bomb by Jackson.

Aiden Nighswander and Brad South pitched scoreless innings out of the SHU bullpen.

The Saints will play again on Saturday when they host Aquinas for a 1 p.m. WHAC doubleheader.
