Baseball Splits With Lawrence Tech

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights baseball team split a WHAC doubleheader with Lawrence Tech on Saturday at the SHU Baseball Diamond. The Saints won game one, 3-2, before dropping game two, 17-4.

Siena Heights (7-20, 4-11) will play again on Monday when it visits Cornerstone for a 3 p.m. conference doubleheader.

Game one: SHU 3, Lawrence Tech 2

The Saints plated three runs in the first inning and the combined pitching effort of Chase Molnar and Nick Tiller made sure the lead stood.

Molnar allowed two runs on seven hits in 6 1/3 innings. He totaled three strikeouts and one walk. Nick Tiller inherited two baserunners from Molnar in the seventh, and hit a batter to load the bags, before inducing a game-ending double play. Tiller was credited with the save.

The Saints jumped ahead on RBI singles by Cole VanWasshenova and Thomas Bakoway. Parker Mabe added an RBI double.

LTU (13-18, 6-7) scored its two runs in the fifth.

VanWasshenova finished with a 2-for-3 game. Matt Love also doubled.

Game two: Lawrence Tech 17, SHU 4

The Saints played catchup the entire contest after falling behind 3-0 in the first inning.

A sacrifice fly by Adam Wilding trimmed the deficit to 3-1 before LTU increased the margin to 6-1 in the second.

VanWasshenova had an RBI groundout and Wilding hit an RBI single in SHU's half of the second. An RBI single by Love closed the gap to 6-4 in the fourth.

The visiting Blue Devils rolled through an eight-run fifth inning to extend their lead to 14-4. LTU tacked on three more in the seventh.

Love batted 2-for-4 with two runs. Haydn Smith doubled.
