Baseball Falls Twice at Concordia

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The Siena Heights baseball team lost both ends of a doubleheader against WHAC opponent Concordia on Sunday. Final scores were 12-5 and 8-1.

Siena Heights (4-15, 1-6) is scheduled to visit Lourdes on Wednesday for a 1 p.m. conference twinbill.

 

Game one: Concordia 8, SHU 1

Cole VanWasshenova (double) and Parker Mabe had two hits apiece for the Saints' offense. Brayden Hill added a double.

Chase Molnar was the starting pitcher for Siena Heights. He lasted 4 2/3 innings and allowed six runs on seven hits. Molnar struck out three batters and walked three.

After Concordia took a 2-0 lead in the first inning, an RBI single by Adam Wilding helped SHU cut its deficit in half.

The Cardinals stretched their lead with four runs in the fifth and two in the sixth.

James Wressel led Concordia (22-1, 7-0), going 3-for-3 with two homers, a double and four RBI

 

Game two: Concordia 12, SHU 5

Mabe continued his strong day at the plate, hitting 3-for-5 with two runs and one RBI. Wilding and Nick Tiller added two-hit games.

A six-run second inning by CUAA had the Saints playing catchup. SHU nearly overcame a 6-1 deficit, closing to 6-5 in the fifth, but the final six runs went Concordia's way.

Siena Heights had rallied back with two-run frames in the fourth and fifth. Brayden Hill had a sacrifice fly during the rally. Jacob Jackson (double) and Mabe contributed run-scoring hits.

CUAA's Drew Fleming had a key three-run homer in the fifth as the host Cardinals grabbed back momentum.

Shilo Bernal Jr. picked 1 1/3 scoreless innings of relief for the Saints with two Ks and one walk.
