Baseball Closes Florida Trip With Dominant Win

LAKE WALES, Fla. -- The Siena Heights baseball team ended its Florida trip on a high note, finishing with a dominant 20-3 win over Calumet (Ind.) on the final day of the Warner Invitational.

The Saints offense collected 21 hits, led by Thomas Bakoway, who batted 3-for-3 with a home run, two runs and two RBI.

Matt Love and Kenny Layman also homered for the Saints (3-9). Love finished with four RBI and Layman had three. Haydn Smith had a double.

Two-hit games were recorded by Layman, Cole VanWasshenova, Adam Wilding, Parker Mabe and Nick Tiller.

Chase Molnar was the winning pitcher. He had six strikeouts in four innings of work. Only two runs were charged to Molnar.

Ryan Sullivan pitched two innings of scoreless relief and Layman finished a scoreless seventh to close the trip.

The teams traded runs in the second -- Tiller had an RBI single -- before Siena Heights broke the game open with an 11-run third inning.

The third was highlighted by three-run homers from Love and Layman.

Wilding, Bakoway, Hill and Tiller had RBI singles in the inning. Matt Scally also had an RBI.

The Saints had two more big innings, scoring four runs in each.

In the fourth, Bakoway hit a solo home run. Love followed with a sac fly, Smith had an RBI double and VanWasshenova hit an RBI single.

During the seventh, Thomas Lamnek and Aidan Grinstead contributed RBI singles. Collin Bammer was hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded and VanWasshenova had a sac fly.

The Saints are scheduled to play their home opener Tuesday when Spring Arbor visits for a 4 p.m. start.
