Saints Rally Cut Short in Season Finale

ADRIAN, Mich.  –  Siena Heights University baseball hosted Lawrence Tech for a nine-inning rescheduled game for the last home game of the 2022 season. The Saints fell 10-5 against the Blue Devils.

SHU 5, Lawrence 10 – 9 innings

Parker Mabe led Siena, batting .750 from the batter's box, crossing home once, and tallying one RBI. Kenny Layman held a batting average of .500 during the game collecting one RBI and scoring once. Adam Wilding went 1-for-4 from the plate, brought in one RBI, and put a run on the board. Cameron Hammer also went 1-for-4 during the game and crossed home plate once for the Saints. Haydn Smith tallied two RBIs during his five times at bat and recorded one hit. Zach Bloom (L, 3-7) started for Siena Heights, pitching two innings to see 13 batters and struck out one. From the mound, Jarrett Cousino faced eight opponents and sat down two.

The visiting Blue Devils led the opening innings bringing in six runs in the first five innings, two of which were home runs, to lead the Saints 6-0.

VanWasshenova started off the sixth inning with a single to shortstop to reach base. Hammer was up next and put a single out towards the left side, putting two runners on base. Layman stepped up to the plate and hit an RBI single to the left side bringing in VanWasshenova. Next, Wilding hit an RBI single up the middle allowing Hammer to run home. Next was Mabe, who hit a big double to left-center bringing in Layman. Next, Smith would single up the middle, allowing Mabe and Wilding to score for a huge five-run inning that brought the Saints within two runs of tying things up, 7-5.

Unfortunately, the rally was cut short by Lawrence Tech, who scored three insurance runs in the top of the ninth to widen the gap and win the game 10-5.
