Baseball Splits With Grey Wolves in Final WHAC Doubleheader of Regular Season

SYLVANIA, Ohio – Siena Heights University traveled to Lourdes University to compete in the last regular-season doubleheader of Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference competition. The Saints split with the Gray Wolves falling in game one 1-0 and claiming a win in game two 4-2.

Game one SHU 0, Lourdes 1 – 7 innings

Cameron Hammer led SHU, going 1-for-3 during the game, collecting the only hit for the visiting Siena Heights Saints. Chase Molnar (L, 2-4) pitched for Siena, facing 21 batters, giving up one run, and striking out four opponents.

Strong defense from the Gray Wolves held the Saints to only one hit in the second inning. The SHU defense saw one three-up-three-down inning in the bottom of the fourth and held the home team to only four hits and one run in the fifth.

Game two SHU 4, Lourdes 2 – 9 innings

Matthew Love paved the way for Siena, scoring twice and batting .250. Cameron Hammer went 3-for-5 from the plate, putting one run on the board, and tallied three RBIs. Haydn Smith (1-for-4) ran home once to score for SHU. Adam Wilding brought in one run for the Saints. Parker Swarts (W, 3-6) pitched eight innings seeing 30 batters, and gave up two runs while striking out four opponents. Kenny Layman (Sv, 3) earned a save for the Saints pitching the ninth inning to strike out one of the four batters faced.

Thanks to tough defense from both teams, the game saw a slow start with multiple three-up-three-down innings. The home team was first to score, putting one run on the board in the fourth. Hammer stepped into the batter's box in the top of the sixth with runners in the corners and hit a single through the right side, allowing Love to run home. Lourdes scored once more to lead 2-1 going into the seventh.

Wilding hit an RBI single to right field in the top of the eighth, bringing in Hammer. In the top of the ninth, Hammer hit an RBI single down the left line to bring in Love and Smith making the score 4-2. Layman took the mound for the bottom of the inning, completed the save for the saints, and won the game.
