SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – Siena Heights baseball swept the Spring Arbor Cougars in a Tuesday doubleheader. The visiting Saints won game one with a big lead of 17-8 and capped the day off with a 6-4 victory in game two, bringing their overall record up to 12-20.

Game 1: SHU 17, Spring Arbor 8 – 7 innings

Kenny Layman (2-for-4) led Siena by crossing home plate four times, batting .500, and bringing in two runs. Adam Wilding (1-for-3) also scored four runs. Cameron Hammer (2-for-4) put three runs on the board and tallied two RBIs. Jacob Jackson (2-for-5) also made it home three times and collected three RBIs. Chris Winkelman (1-for-3) put up one run, batting .333, and brought home two runners. Cole VanWasshenova (1-for-4) and Matthew Love (2-for-6) tallied one run adding to the Saint's score. Parker Swartz (W, 2-4) saw four innings of action. He faced 19 batters and gave up seven earned runs. Andy Stoll pitched two innings to strike out one of the ten batters he faced. Layman would close the game by striking out one Spring Arbor Cougar.

Scoring four times in the top of the first, the Saints saw Love, Wilding, Hammer, and Layman cross home plate. The only inning SHU would not put a run on the board would be the second inning. The home team scored four times in the bottom of the second, tying the score at four runs.

The SHU defense worked hard to hold the Spring Arbor offense to only six batters in the third and fourth innings. However, offensively, Siena's bats could not be stopped, bringing in three runs an inning to bring the score to 10-4 at the top of the fifth.

Wilding scored once in the fifth on an error from the Cougars. SAU continued to fight by putting four runs on the board in the bottom of the fifth. Jackson hit a home run to left-center in the top of the sixth, adding to Siena's score.

Siena Heights sent five batters home in the top of the seventh to make the score 17-8, where it remained, sealing the victory for the Saints.

Game 1: SHU 6, Spring Arbor 4 – 7 innings

Leading Siena in game two was Love, who batted .500 and scored twice while bringing in one run. VanWashenova, who went 2-for-4, crossed home plate once and collected two RBIs. Cameron Hammer (2-for-4) and Layman (2-for-3) each added one run to the scoreboard. While Chris Winkelman, who batted .333, brought in one run, as did Collin Bammer, who hit 1-for-2. Ryan Sullivan started pitching for the Saints and struck out one batter. Luc Olson (W, 1-0) faced eight batters, struck out two, and did not surrender any earned runs. Kenny Layman earned a save for SHU, striking out one opponent in the seventh inning.

The Spring Arbor Cougars held the Saints scoreless in the first inning and scored three runs in the bottom of the first, taking the lead. Getting the bats going in the second, SHU brought Hammer and Layman home to cut the deficit to 3-2. However, tough defense from both teams would slow down the game until the bottom of the fourth when the home team scored to double up the Saints.

In the fifth, SHU kicked it into gear, sending Love and VanWasshenova home to knot things up at four runs. Parker Mabe and Love would score in the sixth to take the lead (6-4) for Siena Heights. A strong defensive showing from Siena late in the game held the Cougars scoreless for the final three innings and earned the victory.
