Saints go 1-1 with Taylor University

Hoover, Alabama – Siena Heights Baseball competed in Hoover, Alabama taking on Taylor University in a doubleheader on Saturday, February 19th. SHU dropped one game to the Trojans and stole another, ending the day 1-1, with an overall record of 1-3.

Game 1: SHU 3, Taylor University 4 (7 innings)

The top performers were: 

3B: Haydn Smith

RBI: Haydn Smith (2) , Parker Mabe

Sac: Thomas Lamnek

With a strong showing from both teams innings, one through four remained scoreless. Starting at the top of the fifth Siena Heights was a triple from Hayden Smith, bringing in Brad South and Cameron Hammer. Allowing for the Saints to go up two. Then at-bat was Parker Mabe with a single to allow Hayden Smith to score bring SHU up three runs to none. Although Taylor answered back with four runs of their own to win the game. Innings six and seven saw no scoring runs.

Game 2: SHU 9, Taylor University 3 (7 innings)

Top performers were: 

2B: Chris Winkelman , Kenny Layman , Jacob Jackson , Cameron Hammer , Jakob Scroggie

RBI: Haydn Smith, Kenny Layman (2), Jacob Jackson, Cameron Hammer, Cody Henderson, Jakob Scroggie (2)

Sac: Haydn Smith

In the top of the second with Cameron Hammer on-base Cody Henderson singled to allow Hammer to score going up 1-0 over the Trojans. Then in the third inning, Siena Heights scored twice more, with a single from Henderson that advanced players around the bases and brought Winkleman in to score. Jacob Jackson grounded out to third base allowing for a score from VanWasshenova, bringing the Saints up 3-0 over the Taylor University Trojans. Taylor saw two scoring runs in the fifth and sixth innings. But SHU kept chugging along raking up another six runs in the top of the seventh to go up 9-2. Scoring runs were made by Winkleman, VanWasshe, Layman, Hammer, Henderson, and Scroggie. The Trojans score once more in the bottom of the seventh to end the game 9-3.

Up Next: The Siena Heights baseball team travels to Midway, Kentucky next for a four-game series with Midway next Saturday and Sunday, February 26-27. Saturday's doubleheader begins at 1:00 p.m., EST.
