Hoover, Alabama – Siena Heights Baseball kicked off the 2022 season traveling to Hoover, Alabama to take on Taylor University in a doubleheader on Friday, February 19th. SHU dropped both games to the Trojans to start the season 0-2.
Game 1: SHU 1, Taylor University 12 (7 innings)
The Trojans started the first inning strong with a quick six runs, holding off the Saints until the sixth inning. When Kenny Layman was able to bring in a run for the blue and yellow. Layman had three at-bats with two hits and one run in the opening game against the Taylor Trojans. Cole VanWasshenova also had one hit for the Saints as did Chris Winkelman and Jakob Scroggie.
Pitching for the Saints was Parker Swartz who held the Trojans within two hits and Jarret Cousino who only allowed four hits during the game.
Game 2: SHU 0, Taylor University 4 (7 innings)
The second game started off slow and remained scoreless until the third inning. When Taylor University was able to steal one run from the Saints. The fourth inning went without seeing a score as well. It was not until the fifth inning that the Trojans scored three more runs, bringing the score to 4-0. Hayden Smith held to hits in the second game of the day. Cole VanWasshenova and Brad South both tallied one hit for SHU.
Pitching for the Saints was freshman Kenny Layman, who was able to hold the Taylor University Trojans to only four runs.
