Saints Swept By Cornerstone

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights baseball team was swept 11-8 and 12-8 in a WHAC doubleheader against Cornerstone on Tuesday afternoon. Cameron Hammer led the Saints as he was 5-for-11 on the night with two RBIs.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Game 1: Cornerstone 11, Siena Heights 8

Kenny Layman (L, 1-2) had the loss on the mound for the Saints pitching 4.0 innings allowing nine hits, seven runs, one walk, and two home runs. Austin McCaig came in to close for SHU in the 4th-inning through the 8th-inning allowing five hits, two runs, and one walk while sticking out six batters. C. McKinney (W, 1-0) started on the mound for Cornerstone pitching 5.1 innings allowing seven hits, and four runs. C. Schwartz earned the save for the Golden Eagles pitching in the 9th-inning allowing no hits or runs. 

Siena got on the board first when Cole VanWasshenova reached on base with a single to the pitcher in the 2nd-inning and Jack Malone singled to left field for an RBI that scored VanWasshenova. Cornerstone earned three runs in the 3rd-inning off four hits to take the lead 3-1. 

The Saints regained the lead 4-1 in the 4th-inning. Cameron Hammer and Chris Winkelman both reached base on a single to center field. Jack Malone doubled to left field earning 2 RBIs scoring Chris Winkelman and Cameron Hammer. Jack Malone then scored on an error by the left-fielder.

The Golden Eagles busted open earning eight runs between the 5th and 7th innings off eight hits for the 11-4 lead. SHU was scoreless till the bottom of the 8th-inning as they scored four runs when Chris Winkelman singled to the shortstop and Jacob Jackson brought him in with a single to left-center. Jack Malone reached on a walk and scored as Brad South was hit by a pitch then Adam Wilding singled to the right field that scored Jacob Jackson

Game 2: Cornerstone 12, Siena Heights 8 

Brad South (L, 0-3) had the loss on the mound for the Saints pitching 4.0 innings allowing six hits, seven earned runs, and two walks. D. VandenBer (W, 1-2) had the win on the mound for the Golden Eagles pitching 2.2 innings allowing three earned runs off seven hits.

Cornerstone had a major 2nd-inning earning seven runs off 5 hits for the 7-0 lead. SHU was scoreless till the bottom of the 4th-inning scoring four runs when Cole VanWasshenova reached on a fielder's choice, and advanced to second on the throw then T. Lamnek singled to right field for an RBI scoring Cole WanWasshenova. Chris Winkelman singled to the left field and scored on a walk by Mike Garcia as the bases were loaded. Parker Mabe reached on base by a walk and scored on a single up the middle from Cameron Hammer updating the score to 7-4.

The Golden Eagles scored five runs between the 5th and 7th innings off nine hits and one error. Siena had three runs in the 7th-inning as Cole VanWasshenova singled to center field and scored on a groundout to first base by Thomas Lamnek. Chris Winkelman reached on a single to left field and scored on a sacrifice fly by Jack Malone. Parker Mabe had a single to center field and scored on interference on the stolen base at third but would not be enough as Cornerstone earned the sweep.

The Saints travel back to Rochester tomorrow at 3:30 PM to make up the second game that was called off in Saturday's doubleheader.
