Aquinas Tops Saints in Doubleheader

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights baseball team dropped a non-conference doubleheader against Aquinas on Sunday afternoon for an overall record of 3-12 on the season. 

THE BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED

Game 1: Aquinas 5, Siena Heights 1

Parker Swartz started on the mound for SHU pitching 4.2 innings allowing seven hits, five runs and struck out two. Kenny Layman closed on the mound for Siena pitching 2.1 innings allowing no hits or runs and struck out four. Ben Snider earned the win on the mound for Aquinas as he pitched five innings only allowing two hits and one run while striking out five. 

Aquinas got on the board first as they scored three runs in the 1st-inning as A. Lockwood singled to left-center for 2 RBIs scoring N. Hughes and S. Wing. A. Strickland walked for an RBI that scored A. Lockwood for the 3-0 lead. The Saints cut the deficit to one run in the 4th-inning as Deven Hill reached first on an error by the third base then Cole VanWasshenova walked advancing Deven Hill to second. Next, Chris Winkelman walked advancing Cole VanWasshenova to second and Deven Hill to third. Mike Garcia had a sacrifice fly ball to centerfield that scored Deven Hill for an RBI.

SHU was scoreless the remainder of the game and Aquinas scored two more runs in the 5th-inning as N. Hughes reached on a walk and A. Lockwood hit a homer for 2 RBIs earning the 5-1 win. 

Game 2: Aquinas 4, Siena Heights 3

Zach Bloom started on the mound for Siena as he pitched the entire game while allowing six hits and four runs while striking out three. Hunter Morrison earned the win on the mound for Aquinas as he pitched five innings allowing six hits and one run while striking out five.

Aquinas put up three runs in the 1st-inning as B. Nawrocki doubled to left center earning 2 RBIs that scored N. Hughes and D. Smitz. Next, B. Paganelli singled to third base scoring B. Nawrocki for an RBI. Siena was scoreless until the 5th-inning when they scored one run when Parker Mabe Singled through the left side and Thomas Lamnek doubled to left field advancing Parker Mabe to third. Matthew Love singled to shortstop for an RBI that scored Parler Mabe.

Aquinas' J. Kelley homered for an RBI in the top of the 4th-inning updating the score to 4-1. It came down to crunch time for SHU as they had the opportunity to tie the game as Kenny Layman grounded out to second base scoring Parker Mabe for an RBI and Matthew Love grounded out to second base scoring Jakob Scroggie for an RBI but it was not enough as they fell short. 

TOP SAINTS

Adam Wilding went 2-3 in game one.

Matthew Love went 3-8 on the day with two RBIs.

Cameron Hammer was 2-4 in game two.

•  Parker Mabe went 2-3 in the second game scoring two runs. 

THE OPPOSITION

• A. Lockwood went 2-5 on the day with a home run and 4 RBIs

• B. Nawrocki went 2-5 on the day with two RBIs.

•  B. Paganelli and J. Kelly both earned an RBI in game two.
