Cougars Outscore Saints on Day Two in Florida

LAKE WALES, Florida -- The Siena Heights baseball team lost their 11th-straight game against Spring Arbor at Warner University in Lake Wales, Florida on Tuesday afternoon. Brad South (Freshman, Lambertville, Mich.) finished 2-for-4 at the plate while earning one RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Saints got things started as Logan Nolff (Senior, Monroe, Mich.) reached first on an error and advanced to second on a passed ball. South doubled scoring Nolff to end the inning. Siena struggled at the plate the remainder of the game as they had seven-straight scoreless innings only tallying five hits. The Cougars knotted things up as Mast walked and advanced to second on a singled by Hayes. Mast advanced to third on a ground out double-play by Miller. Herschber walked and stole second base along with Harding and Kraabel reaching base on walks scoring Mast and ending the inning.

Spring Arbor scored two runs in the bottom of the second inning. Redfield reached first on an error by the second baseman. Carroll singled to right-field as he advanced to second on an error by right field also advancing Redfield to third. Carroll advanced to third and Redfield scored on a grounder by Hayes. Miller doubled to right field and scored Carroll for the 3-1 lead.

The Cougars scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning as Mast singled to center field advancing to second and scoring Carroll. Haynes had a fly ball to center field allowing Mast to tag up and score. Harding singled to right field advancing Herschber to third and scoring Miller. Spring Arbor tagged on one more run in the bottom of the fifth as Carroll was hit by a pitch and advanced to second on a wild pitch while Mast singled to left-field scoring Carroll.

The Cougars would have a breakout inning in the bottom of the sixth as they scored seven runs. Miller scored on a wild pitch and Herschber scored off a single to right field by Kraabel. Mast singled to left field scoring Gemmingen and Kraabel. Hayes reached first on an error by the shortstop that scored Mast and Carroll. Callahan singled to right field scoring Hayes to end the inning 14-1.

Spring Arbor tagged on two more runs in the bottom of the seventh on a single to center field by Harris that scored Kraabel. Mast reached base on a fielder's choice scoring Gemmingen for the 16-1 lead. The Saints put one more run on the board in the top of the ninth inning. Lamnek walked and advanced to second as South reached first on an error by third base. Jacob Scroggie (Sophomore, New Boston, Mich.) doubled advancing South to third and scored Lamek ending the game with the 16-2 loss.

SAINTS BATTERS

• South went 2-4 with one RBI.

• Scroggie went 1-for-3 earning one RBI.

Joe Ellis (Senior, Grosse Point Farms, Mich.) and Cody Henderson (Sophomore, Lewiston, Montanna) respectively went 1-4.

SAINTS PITCHERS

Zach Bloom (L, 0-1) (Sophomore, Swanton, Ohio) pitched 3.2 innings allowing six hits and runs while striking out one.

Wyatt West (Senior, Taylor, Mich.) pitched 1.2 innings allowing two hits and five runs as he struck out one.

THE OPPOSITION HITTING

• G. Miller went 3-4 scoring two runs and earning one RBI.

• B. Mast finished 3-for-4 tallying four RBIs and scored three runs.

• Carroll went 1-1 as he scored four runs.

THE OPPOSITION PITCHING

• C. Kontny (W, 1-0) pitched five innings allowing three hits and one run while striking out three.

• B. Garcia closed as he pitched one inning allowing one hit and run and struck out two.
